Toney Douglas has been struggling to find his shot with the Rockets. He has come off the bench in every game and last night was no different. He got his first minutes with five to play in the first quarter hitting a three pointer for his first shot. When Toney can get in a rhythm he is a deadly shooter and tonight was his chance to prove it. During the first quarter, he was 2/3 shooting with seven points.
As the second quarter started, Toney was out on the floor and quickly made his presence felt by grabbing an offensive rebound and tipping it back in, which was his second tip in of the game. For a point guard he loves to hang around the rim. Then on the next Rockets possession Douglas comes down and hits a three giving him 12 points for the game. He added another bucket to close out the half as the Rockets trailed by 13 to the Lakers.
For the start of the second half Toney was on the bench while Jeremy Lin ran the point. When he came in with three minutes to go the Rockets still trailed by 12. Although he was unable to score in the third, he did have an offensive rebound which was his third of the game that setup a two point basket to close the lead to 10 after three quarters.
During the fourth quarter Douglas scored eight points including a three pointer that helped the Rockets go on a 9-2 run to take the lead with 2:30 remaining, a lead they would never give up.
For the game he played 28 minutes going 8/17 from the field and 3/4 from the free throw line. Toney also had four rebounds including three offensive with three assist and two steals. His 22 points is a season high and was a team high for the game.
