Magic Waive Von Wafer

In an attempt to resign center Dwight Howard, the Orlando Magic have waived guard, Von Wafer, to clear room for the salary cap.  Wafer signed a three year contract with the Magic this past December and only one year was guaranteed.  Giving the Magic a chance to cut him and not be stuck paying him.  Wafer played in 33 games this season and only 1 start.  Wafer has been in the league since 05' and has been bounced from team to team with the Magic being his seventh team.  The former Seminole will become an unrestricted free agent after he clears waivers.

Randy Choate Lowered his ERA

Randy Choate pitched a perfect ninth inning on Tuesday night as the Miami Marlins held a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Since giving up an earned run on May 3rd, the Seminole has been pretty good in 7 appearances throwing 4.1 innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts.
He has lowered his ERA from 1.59 to 0.90.  Next for the Marlins is a road trip to the Atlanta Braves, where Choate could face fellow Seminole Matt Diaz.

Stephen Drew Could Soon Return From Injury

Former Seminole Stephen Drew could begin a Triple-A assignment with the Arizona Diamondbacks farm club, the Reno Aces, as soon as this Sunday.  Drew has been on the disabled list since he fractured his right ankle last summer.
Over the past weekend Drew took a couple of practice slides to test out the ankle, then one that got his manager Kirk Gibson laughing:
"Yeah, on his first slide on the mat, he was jerking me around. He headfirst slid," Gibson said, smiling. "He knew we were all out there to see him slide."
This is the first step in a long process to rebuild and strengthen this ankle.  There was never a time table for his return.

Rough Times For Posey and Giants

The Giants as a whole need to do a better job of producing in key moments.  In Wednesdays rubber match against the Dodgers they were 3-11 as a team with runners in scoring position.  Buster Posey was 1-4 with an RBI (1-5 in the game).  Chad Billingsley, the Dodgers pitcher, walked 4 and gave up 7 while only allowing 2 earned runs.

The 3rd inning was the best chance for them to score big.  Buster Posey came up to bat and hit a single into left center field which scored Melky Cabrera, who had tripled to deep center with one out on the previous at-bat. Then with runners on first and second and two outs the Giants get a single to center, that should plate one run but a base running error by Nate Schierholtz caused him to get thrown out before the leading runner could score.

The rest of the game Posey went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts in the 6-2 loss.  The team will have an off day today, then will start a series on Friday at the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Chances Good For Toney Douglas

Coming into Wednesdays Game 5, the New York Knicks are depleted at the guard position.  Barron Davis went out in Sunday's game with a dislocated knee.  Iman Shumpert was lost in Game 1 with a torn ACL .  The Knicks are left with Mike Bibby and Toney Douglas.  Douglas, the former ACC-player of the year, has not played in the series and his shot in Game 5 comes down to matchups.
“It all depends on who they play,” Woodson said. “If they come in with Cole, that would be a better matchup for us, Toney on the ball with Cole bringing the ball up, speed against speed.”
Norris Cole is a 6-2 rookie point guard for the Heat.  Toney would have a better chance at guarding him rather than 6-8 Lebron James.

Wednesdays Game 5 will be at 7:05 et on TNT .

Matt Diaz Rolling For The Braves

Matt Diaz has not been an everyday player for the Atlanta Braves, but when given the chance to start he comes through.
Down 8-3 to the Rockies in the top of the 6th, Diaz leads off and hits a 430ft home run to right field which started a rally where the Braves put up 5 runs to tie the game.  Again in the 7th, the former Seminole led off with a single to left field, and later scored on a bases loaded walk by Michael Bourn.
The Braves took the lead and never looked back taking the win 13-9.
Matt Diaz ended the night going 3-4 with HR, 2 singles, 2 runs and 1RBI.

Buster Posey Bounces Back

Former Seminole Buster Posey has been in a slump over the past 5 games with the San Francisco Giants. He is batting 3 for 16 (.188avg).
Making a rare appearance at first base, Posey broke out to go 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run.  Posey came up to bat in the sixth with the game tied 1-1 and a runner on third when he hit a single with the infield drawn in that made it through to the outfield.
Brett Pill came up to bat and hit a double to score Posey from first.  The Giants were able to hold on to the lead and finish with a 5-2 win and ending their 4-game skid.  The final game will be at 4:05 ET as the Giants try to take the series.

Christian Ponder Prepares For First Vikings Mini Camps

Christain Ponder played hurt most of his senior year at Florida State, and in his rookie season for the Vikings much was the same.  Coming into his first mini camps as a pro Christian Ponder has put an emphasis on becoming stronger.
“I had some injuries last year (and) I can try to help myself not get injured next year,” Ponder said. “(I'm) doing a lot of stuff in the weight room, the training room, doing yoga. (I am preparing) myself to be in the best physical shape as possible for this coming season.”
Newly aquired tight end John Carlson has had nothing but great things to say about Ponder
“He's very talented. I didn't realize he was as mobile as he is. Watching some film from last year, that's very obvious. He's got all the tools. He can make all the throws, and he's a really bright guy. I'm excited to be a part of his development.”
Vikings mini camps start Thursday May 3rd to Sunday May 6th.
